Newer motherboards and computer systems may support SATA devices internally, but now there are more external devices (like hard drives) that use the SATA interface as well. How do you connect them to your computer? Add this eSATA to SATA rear panel host adapter! It adapts your internal SATA connectors for use with external eSATA devices.
This simple bracket mounts in place with one screw (mounting screw not included), and the two cables connect to your motherboard's SATA connectors.
Please note, eSATA and SATA use two different port and plug shapes. The internal cables of this adapter use SATA plugs; the external ports of this adapter use eSATA ports.
eSATA is the fast, new standard in drive interface technology!

Great product for taking unused internal sata ports inside PC and allowing use of external esata drives. Esata is way faster than USB. You can also boot from an esata drive using this device. I have 2 estata drives connected to multi-boot my system (vista 64 & windows7 - I turn off the unused drive to save power). Make sure you measure the length of the cable needed from your mother board to the back of PC. 6" cable may be too short. Other models like this come with longer cables. Mine was 18" so it could reach the back of the case. Highly recommended for external esata drive use.

A few months ago I had no idea what ESATA was. Then I bought an external drive case that had both USB2 and ESATA. It came with a single Motherboard SATA connector-to-ESATA socket. When I bought another like unit, I wanted to have 2 ESATA connectors on one bracket. That's what this does nicely.

Besides that it doesn't work with external WD drives, but cables are too short for my tower case.

I bought this hoping it would allow me to use my Western Digital My Book SE on my Asus A8N-SLI, but it does not work. The Western Digital requires a true eSATA connection from the motherboard. What this does is convert SATA to eSATA and that won't cut it for the WD drive.
