 "Poor support" 2010-07-21
By Curunir (San Francisc, CA USA)
I can't really comment on the positive aspects of this board, as I'm still unable to install the primary hard drive, but I feel compelled to write a review on the poor support I've received from the manufacturer.

I purchased this board because I believed it would do well as a fileserver. It has 4 SATA connections and a Mini PCIe that can accommodate a flash drive for the main OS to keep all 4 of the larger drives equally sized for a software RAID setup. Unfortunately, the Mini PCIe slot has been problematic. First off, this motherboard does not come with the screws necessary to install a card in the slot and the actual cards don't seem to come with them either. This would only be an annoyance if the documentation or support staff were able to inform the buyer of which screws need to be purchased, but that information isn't in the documentation and the support staff were unable to find it. However, in my case, the screws would have made little difference since my board had an excess of solder connecting the screw attachment to the motherboard. With the sides uneven and the one side angled, screwing a card to the motherboard is impossible. I'm pretty sure I'll have to glue it if I decide to avoid the return process.

I may edit this review if and when I actually get this up and running, but I just wanted to put this up in case anyone else was thinking of buying this board with the intention of using the Mini PCIe slot.

"Did not fully support dual channel memory" 2010-07-14
By Joe Ding
I ordered all parts and softwares of this computer from Amazon.com.

I had not written review before because English is my second language, I would like to write one now just for those person, like me, use a dual channel memory and got the same trouble. I have build about half dosen of computers for my self and friends, this mother board gave me the most trouble. I order PNY dual channel memories(2x2 g. bites)just because it was on sell, and the maual said it support dual channel memory. I isntalled windows xp home edition first, and it gave me a lot of blue pages warnings during the installation. After I finished installation, I download memory check software from Microsoft, but it couldn't tell me anything wrong. I dcided to update to windows 7, hoping that this would solve my computer unstable problems, but it couldn't improve as I was hopping for. I had kept tried my update for so many times that Mcrosoft activation center won't allow me to use my key any more. I had to call them twices to tell them my troubles, and Microsoft personnel finally agreed to let me use my copy of windows 7. I ordered a 2 gb dual channel(made by crucial) to replace my PNY memories, unfortuately it coudn't even started my computer, so I had to return it to Amazon. I finally replaced with two Kingston ValueRam 2 GB 800MHz PC2 DDR2 DIMM desktop memories, and I was so lucky that it worked. Now my computer run very smooth and fast.

 "Excellent HTPC Motherboard" 2010-01-08
By B. Adair (New Mexico)
This is probably the best little motherboard on the market for a HTPC build. I have one combined with Haup dual tuner, 3.5tb of space (1.5tb and 2tb drives), W7 home premium, 4gb ddr2 800 mem, and blu-ray drive. Has worked perfect for months while working hard 16+ hrs a day. Very cool even overclocked and actually pretty quiet. Fast enough for just about anything in the HTPC area. Handles blu-ray discs and images flawlessly. Price shop. These prices are dropping.

"When things go wrong, product providers are challenged" 2009-12-23
By Richard (Dallas, Texas, USA)
My actual purchase was an IONITX-D-E mobo, the predecessor of this product. There is very little difference between the two (The sole difference seems to be in the PCIExpress capability, x16 versus x1). ZOTAC has informed me that they are replacing my dead D-E mobo with a G-E mobo. So, I expect that all of the other features and their performance will essentially be the same except for one: In my version (early) of the D-E, Wakeup on USB (E.g. shake a USB mouse or press the remote control) did not function. One actually had to press the power button to wake up the system after going into hibernate or sleep state. This was a common complaint of hobbyists who were building an HTPC.

Both products (D-E and G-E) deserve an additional star. However, the customer service of the vendor, ZOTAC, deserves one less star. So, 3 stars is the average of the two grades (^:

The D-E/G-E product, itself (4 stars....might have been 5 if it had not died on me):

* True Mini-ITX form packaging, fits the Mini-ITX enclosures with ease and with the usual cramped fingers [(^:] - not a complaint because its par for that course.

* Great HD audio to my audio equipment. The power is awesome.

* Excellent 1080i video through an HDMI connector to my 46" LCD TV.

* Excellent 1080p quality for downloaded movies and videos, especially Blu-ray quality and detail.

* Excellent NVIDIA software support for Windows 7, even during the Release Candidate period. Cudos to NVIDIA.

* Pretty good ("B+") NVIDIA software support for Ubuntu Linux (my personal preferred platform). It will definitely get better, judging by NVIDIA activity in the open source communities.

* Excellent forums resources at NVIDIA's web site.

Okay, now the bad news about the product vendor (2 stars):

I purchased the IONITX-D-E on 6/26/2009 and assembled a Mini-box build in July, using the M350 Universal Mini-ITX enclosure. The mobo died on 11/26/2009. Chalk it up to bad luck. All of the other components are okay.

I filed an RMA (RMA-20TO112609) with ZOTAC directly on the same day because I was beyond the 30-day return period of my reseller [not complaining about the reseller]. UPS delivered the returned goods on 12/10/2009.

Yes, I am still waiting for some sort of notification or the RMA status to be updated on their web site (currently, "received" "on 11/26/2009"). I have written since )^: - caught in Christmas rush? No excuses for slow customer service.

Hinesight: Perhaps, I purchased an NVIDIA "ION" mobo too soon. There are now other vendors with ION-packaged mobos now. Live and learn. If you are thinking of buying any ION mobo or assembled system product, I suggest that you have a look around first. If you are open to other Mini-ITX form factor solutions, there are choices other than ION as well.

1/2/2010 Update: ZOTAC customer service is still waiting for the replacement product from manufacturing.

 "Good Biostar Replacement" 2009-08-23
By Big V (Atlanta, Ga)
Bought this to replace a biostar motherboard that had nothing but issues; the sound didn't work & stopped booting from CD regardless of bios settings. Zotac instructions were simple, drivers were available and installation was rather straight forward. If there are any issues, I haven't found them yet after a month of daily use. What hooked me was the Nvidia onboard video with DVI. I thought it would be a nice upgrade from the weird off brand integrated video used on the cheap biostar board that kept my daughter from watching some videos. She only uses it for school work and a few online game sites and she seems to be happy.I installed the board, re-activated Windows XP and I was done, did not take long at all. For the price, this board actually turned out to be a nice upgrade, decent on-board video & it supports 4 Gb of Ram if later on I decide to go 64 bit. I would pick up another for a budget AMD build.

 "Zotac GF8100" 2009-05-02
By Lehua (At my keyboard)
Had problems with on board LAN. Kept disconnecting and stop working. I reloaded the drivers and still the LAN would stop working. Ended up installing a NIC.

The one major problem I had was with a PNY 768MB 9600GSO I had originally bought for this motherboard. The display had shadows on the right side of everything on the monitor, making text hard to read. Even the latest updates from Nvidia did not correct this. I even returned the PNY 9600 and got another one and the result was the same, some sort of conflict with this board. The on board 8100 graphics worked fine. I tried three other video cards by EVGA, a 6100, a 8800GS, and a 9600GT. All worked fine. I ended up using a different video card. Tech help could not figure it out. BTW, the 9600GSO worked fine on a different system. Other than that this board works fine.

"It's cheap, but missing one key feature." 2009-02-10
By Joshua J. Glemza
I purchased this motherboard to use as a server for my home. For the most part it accomplishes this task, but it lacks the ability to throttle the CPU fan speed. The stock fan that came with my CPU is very loud when it's at 3000+ rpms. Just a warning to those who are buying, you'll probably have to buy a different cpu fan. Perhaps I expect too much from a cheap mobo!

"Awesome board! Buy it now! Buy two, they're cheap!" 2010-04-11
By Darren R. Starr (Oslo, Norway)
Bought one of these when I saw it on a shelf at a local computer shop. I didn't need it, didn't have any case to put it in, didn't have a spare power supply to test it with, but I had to have it. Brought it home, started searching for cases and parts for it.

The good

Requires a power supply, a CPU, a DIMM and a hard drive or compact flash card with adapter to build a full PC. It's the first motherboard I've seen in its' price range that is good enough for just about anything (included even casual gaming) with almost no real additional investment. It's possible to build a mini-game system for $300 with this board. For an extra $100, adding a graphics card can turn it into a relatively high-end gaming system.

The bad

Damn near impossible to buy a case for it which will do it justice. Socket-775 chips are not really meant for this type of application. But I found that under-clocking a 45nm Core-2 makes it so you can place it in just about any case with a low profile cooler running on low RPM.

If you're an impulse shopper, click buy now and figure out what to do with the board later once you've got it. This is just about the coolest board on the market at the moment.

Zotac, if you're reading this, please make a new model with 8 SATA ports on it so you'll make the most amazing mini-server board as well. A mini-itx board with built in hardware RAID-5 for 8 drives would make it the best mini-server board EVER
