Pros: Inexpensive, reasonable low-end choice for basic web browsing or office applications. So far, no crashes or other instability. Board layout and front-panel pinout worked pretty well for my case. Had no trouble using 2GB of standard-spec DDR2-800 PC6400 RAM (not overclocking/gaming RAM.)



Cons: Cheap build quality makes me worry about long-term reliability. When I touch the computer case, even the smallest static charge produces a popping noise through the on-board audio. This means that the audio isolation capacitors are of very low quality and not doing their job well. Additionally, unlike 90%+ of other AM2 boards, there is no support backplate attached to the heatsink retention module, resulting in extra stress on the motherboard. Using just the stock AMD heatsink, my board is visibly bowed due to the pressure and lack of support.



Other Thoughts: It would have been nice if a USB-to-PCI bracket was included, because there are a total of 12 USB ports on this motherboard, but only 4 are available at the back panel. Overall, this board suits my parents' needs for now, but the low build quality makes me wonder how long it will last.

This motherboard has the following pros:



It's cheap. It does what it's supposed to do as long as you don't expect to use it for a RAID array. Well made. Has some nice features: Easy overclocking, Reset and power switches on the motherboard. Plenty of USB ports and 1GB LAN. Decent video built in. HDMI and eSata.



It has the following cons:



The RAID function is virtually impossible to figure out. There is no support, absolutely none, at the MSI site, and I have yet to find a workable solution by searching the Internet. There is a supplied ATI interface that connects from the Internet, but it doesn't see the RAID controller on the motherboard and the site has the same lack of any sort of instructions for how to make it work. There is plenty about the features of the program, but that is useless without it "seeing" the RAID controller.



The floppy connector is in an odd location. Expect to need a long cable to reach it.



The pinouts for front connectors, etc. are poorly marked on the motherboard. Be very careful to compare the pictures in the manual with the motherboard pinouts.



There is an extensive area in BIOS where you can overclock the CPU and RAM, but again absolutely no supporting documentation, either with the motherboard or on the Internet at MSI.



I gave this product a 3 rating. If it didn't work so well I would have rated it lower because of the lack of support for the BIOS functions.



If you don't require RAID or can overclock without help it's a great motherboard.

Bought this to replace a biostar motherboard that had nothing but issues; the sound didn't work & stopped booting from CD regardless of bios settings. Zotac instructions were simple, drivers were available and installation was rather straight forward. If there are any issues, I haven't found them yet after a month of daily use. What hooked me was the Nvidia onboard video with DVI. I thought it would be a nice upgrade from the weird off brand integrated video used on the cheap biostar board that kept my daughter from watching some videos. She only uses it for school work and a few online game sites and she seems to be happy.I installed the board, re-activated Windows XP and I was done, did not take long at all. For the price, this board actually turned out to be a nice upgrade, decent on-board video & it supports 4 Gb of Ram if later on I decide to go 64 bit. I would pick up another for a budget AMD build.

Had problems with on board LAN. Kept disconnecting and stop working. I reloaded the drivers and still the LAN would stop working. Ended up installing a NIC.

The one major problem I had was with a PNY 768MB 9600GSO I had originally bought for this motherboard. The display had shadows on the right side of everything on the monitor, making text hard to read. Even the latest updates from Nvidia did not correct this. I even returned the PNY 9600 and got another one and the result was the same, some sort of conflict with this board. The on board 8100 graphics worked fine. I tried three other video cards by EVGA, a 6100, a 8800GS, and a 9600GT. All worked fine. I ended up using a different video card. Tech help could not figure it out. BTW, the 9600GSO worked fine on a different system. Other than that this board works fine.

I purchased this motherboard to use as a server for my home. For the most part it accomplishes this task, but it lacks the ability to throttle the CPU fan speed. The stock fan that came with my CPU is very loud when it's at 3000+ rpms. Just a warning to those who are buying, you'll probably have to buy a different cpu fan. Perhaps I expect too much from a cheap mobo!

Replaced a 2 year old motherboard with this one and is has so far solved my issues very well. Setup was simple and stability has been top notch so far. Will update if anything changes.

An excellent premium board. All the features you could want, except no updates.



ASUS has not released updated drivers for this board since its release. Both the audio and network have issues, yet there is no updated drivers for either. On the i7 side, ASUS replaced both of these components within a few months with a design update. Not here.



If your audio has weird noises, you can hear drives spinning up and mouse movements through your speakers, Here's how to fix it. Open the master volume. Normally you double-click the speaker icon on the bottom right of the screen. Options->Properties, check 'PC Beep'. Hit ok. Now, mute PC Beep.



I haven't had a problem like this out of a PC since Pentium Pro days.

Great motherboard , got it running ten minutes out of the box

I bought it to replace a asus M2N32 SLI wireless edition which never lasted more than a year

hope this one last longer.

I used back all my old parts from the other dead motherboard and it worked in this new board

havent tried over clockin it yet but the reviews say its a overclockers dream

Strong robust board I would recommend it to any one not a a waste of money.

Lord I can die a happy man now... My mission critical system died on me the last week in may, a Abit AN52 with a AMD 4500 + 2.4 Ghz processor...I was sad when my machine went down but now I forgive it as this MOBO with the new phenom II X4 I bought to replace it makes the old system look like it was molasses.



First off ASUS keeps up its reputation by adding a number of items to make installation easier, the pin configurations manager etc make it easy for those of us that aren't blessed with 20/20 eye sight, it also ships with an sli bridge cable for the video card in the box (a nice touch). Though this mobo was designed for the gaming industry it does fantastic double duty for the graphic and video industry as well, my video production software has never operated as seamlessly and for the rendering on programs like XARA and Adobe photoshop has dropped to more than half of what it used to be. I've rebuilt my old system with new graphics card and the old memory I was using from before, I've bench mard this system with amazing results, and a user experiance index of 4.8. I'm EXTREMLY happy with this purchase.

Got this board over a month ago and have been running 8 GB of DDR2-1066 at 1066. States that due to AMD limitations only two DDR2-1066 chips are supported otherwise they will run at 800 speeds. This is easily overrided with memory speed change.



Through all my new components in and posted correctly the first time! This board is rock solid and one of the best boards out there, cannot beat an ASUS board.



Don't listen to the last guy. The new AMD AM3 socket CPU will incorporate DDR2 AND DDR3 memory controller. Thus the board suppports AM2+ and AM3 socket CPUs.
