 "RAM Clipper Broken" 2008-01-10
By Ali (Manama, Bahrain)
I bought this Motherboard on 27th of December 20007, unfortunately when I received this motherboard on 08/01/2008, one of the ram holding clippers was broken. I can't send the item back because I live overseas! And it will cost me a fortune to do that.

I am very unhappy with the quality of this product.

"Good Mobo, but read carefully" 2007-08-23
By Christian Gallegos
Before buying this mobo, first check in the asus website what processor can handle it, and be carefull, because i bought this mobo and first i had a problem with my cpu, i though that i needed a bios upgrade, because it cant handled so i also bought an celeron processor to do it, because even that this mobo support the Quad Core or an Extreme intel CPU, it says that for a bios upgrade you need a NON CORE 2 DUO processor, and try to do it carefully cause you will just find out that the bios chip could be corrupted, but after fixed it is working fine, and the overclok feature it's good...... mmmmm.... anything else?

"Great Board, but software only works with VISTA" 2007-06-10
By Kenneth R. Shaw (San Francisco)
Ok, you see the other reviews, great board, tons of great features, all true. HOWEVER!!!!! The software will not work if you install Vista directly on and then try to load the motherboard software. The GOOD NEWS is that if you install to XP first, no problemo! The board does run fast, quiet and generally cool. The ASUS site has all updated drivers, so it's only the initial install. Of course, if ASUS now sells the board with the updated drivers, then great, but be advised to check out the version of software the board comes with, or be prepared.

"Great mobo for Core 2 Quad CPUs" 2010-10-02
By O. Flores (Costa Rica)
I'm running my ASUS P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n, with a Core 2 Quad Q9550S, 16 GB RAM (using four 4GB DDR3 sticks). I also installed a USB 3.0/SATA 3 card (ASUS U3S6 PCIE Card) in the third PEG PCIe 1.0 slot (4-line). The system is running at Stock Speed for CPU and memory. Wifi comes from an AzureWave AW-NA830 USB module. It should work as an access point but I have only used it in client mode. 802.11n speeds tested against a Linksys WRT350N running DD-WRT.

This mobo is based on the now aging X38 chipset. It is a great, match for my Core 2 Quad (latest BIOS) and DDR3 Memory has an edge over DDR2 memory. Having 16 GB of RAM makes wonders, when running several VirtualBOX virtual machines at once, as there is no performance penalty due to memory constraints. The main OS is Win7 ultimate, but I also run from time to time PC-BSD.

Asus and Intel documentation (for X38 chipsets) mentions that the Max amount of onboard memory is 8GB, but Intel also mentions that this chipset has 36 bits addressing capability. So I imagine that back on 1997 Intel only had 2GB memory modules, so they tested and certified the chipset for up to 8GB configurations only. Your mileage may vary, but I'm very happy with my setup.

"Update the BIOS for Core 2 Duo CPU to work." 2008-11-22
By Lawrence Ault (North Indiana)
BIOS is old, unable to access Core 2 Duo CPU.....

Had to install older P4 CPU, flash BIOS, then install Core 2 Duo.

Asus should get their head out of the sand. They print that the MB can take Core 2 Duo, but they don't mention that you have to update the BIOS to make things work! Dumbbells.

The CPU Cooler can be no larger than 92mm x 92mm due to cooling cage that surrounds the CPU.

Other than this stupidness, the board is great.

By Delven Hamric
I got this system to build a new VISTA based system. It had more than was needed, so it made a great foundation. This system was very easy to over-clock and runs very stable. Unfortunately I can't say that for VISTA! I ended up putting XP back on this system and it runs great. It comes with XP and VISTA drivers, so you can go either way. I would highly recommend this motherboard for the foundation on your new system!

"Reply to Robert Hudock's post!" 2007-12-09
By Fayza Altoerki (NY)
1st of all you don't know what your talking about!!

this motherboard is the best DDR3 memory motherboard out there with crazy overclocking ability..! if you did not make enough research on this mobo then you only have your self to blame. speaking of DDR3 memory , there are 2 versions on the X38 intel chipsets that ASUS tweaked. one is for the new DDR3 memory and the other for DDR2. If the price of DDR3 is too high in the meantime (which i completely agree with you on this) and you still wanted to take advantage of the X38 that enables crossfire configuration then you could have just got the ASUS Maximus formula or the P5E motherboard that uses DDR2 memory!

Needless to say that after the x38 chipset there won't be anymore DDR2 memory so you do the math.

if anybody is interested to know more about this amazing motherboard check out anadtech.com or tomshardware reviews of this motherboard or google ASUS P5E3.

"Order from ANTONLINE with an abudance of caution" 2007-12-07
By Robert Hudock (Washington, DC)
The product description omitted a lot key details including most importantly the vendor's (ANTONLINE's) return policy. Despite not having opened the internal packaging with the exception of reviewing the product manual for compatibility issues/ concerns; I have spent the last four days in a run around with the vendor, and as far as I can tell there is no human being you can actually talk to.

Issues/ Concerns:

(1) The built int WIFI network could be a security risk. It is not clear what security functionality is included in this built in WIFI router.

(2) The only compatible memory is DDR3 which is very expensive.

(3) Apparently there have been BIOS update issues with the product (I have not tested this myself). Stability is very important to me, after reviewing the details in the product manual and other websites it appears the board includes a lot of features but may not be stable, clearly, a problem for a premium over clocking motherboard. One review board indicated that they had to down clock their memory to stabilize the system (this is a real deal breaker after spending 800 dollars on 4 GB of DDR3 memory.

(4) There appears to be some-type of integrated RF control device (similar to what you get with the mac-mini), again I am concerned about the implementation of this item and whether this functionality can be turned off.

With proper testing some of these concerns could be addressesed, but I am not willing to risk opening the packaging thereby making the return even more onerous than it already is.

I have had good experience with TigerDirect as a vendor, and Amazon itself, but be careful with some of these alternative vendors which sell through amazon online but have a very different return policy and whose customer service is completely substandard compared to amazon's normal policies.

"Not a good choice for 64-bit Windows 7, unreliable" 2010-01-29
By Christopher J. Shaker (Bend, OR United States)
I own two of these boards. First off, Windows 7 64-bit installs on the hardware, assuming you have less than 4 GB of RAM.

Windows 7 has problems with sleep on this board with quad processor phenoms. Windows 7 has problems with the USB hardware in the Nvidia chipset on this board if 4 GB or more of RAM is installed. There are hotfixes for the Windows 7 problem with the USB on the NVidia chipset. The USB problems are known to possibly cause a blue screen of death in the USB driver, which I got when I attempted to run one of these boards with 6 GB of ECC RAM installed.

Problems when you move data over USB

[...]

Problems when computer wakes up from a sleep:

[...]

One of my two boards has suddenly gone unstable. It was running Windows 7 stably for a couple of months with those hot fixes. It now typically hangs during disk access to drive C.

The hardware passes Memtest86+ 4.00, several passes, with no errors. I ran the Seagate disk diagnostics on the original hard drive, and it tested good.

I replaced replaced the power supply (was 750 watt PC Power & Cooling, now has 1,000 watt Corsair), replaced the hard disk (new WD Caviar Black drive, formatted and tested on another computer). Replaced the case with a Coolermaster HAF 922. Replaced the memory. Was using two sets of Kingston ECC RAM, KVR800D2E6K2/2G. Tried running with only half the memory. Tried running with 2GB of Corsair XMS2 RAM. Still hangs. Hung once in the BIOS setup. Tried setting memory timing and voltage manually with each memory. No help.

Only thing left is to swap out the motherboard and the CPU.

I have found ASUS support to be worthless in dealing with this USB problem with the Nvidia chipset. Their only reply is to assume that I have bad or inappropriate memory. The Kingston RAM was what Kingston recommended for this board, if you want ECC RAM.

By Robert Richards (Homosassa, Florida)
This motherboard represents a good value for the dollar. It is being used for a home computer for casual to moderate use. By not pushing the board to its' limits, it is expected to be stable, and perform well for quite a few years The components used in conjunction with it are:- 535 watt power supply, 320 GB HDD, one basic video card, one DVD drive, one ethernet graphics card, and 2 gigabytes RAM; all within an all aluminum case. With two weeks of use under its' belt, the issues have only been minor.

the last time I got a ASUS motherboard. with in the 4 months the motherboard starting to die on me. It needed service ASUS refuse to use the delivery service of my choice. Went with Fed Ex. who I did not want to do. Fed Ex killed my motherboard. Thoughing it from the ground floor to the 2nd floor killing my door. trying to break the window of my door. little parts flying off the board.. ASUS design is bad. my serial number is now void due to abuse. its not my doing. it was abuse due to a prank move on Fed Ex. now for the new class motherboard from ASUS not contains parts that only the max of 5,000 hours. the parts are so cheap made. any parts that have a short life span like this and no tech support ASUS dose not want to be bothered with repairs. Doing the same thing like Gigabyte ,FIC, Shuttle Space Walker dose. making boards that do not work. and making motherboard that do not last much more then 3 to 4 months. and No tech support and bad Public relations I am extream upset that my 300.00 motherboard died on me for bad design flaws, bad service. and it was noted as a SLI-32 Deluxe with a 939 socket. the best board of the 939.

Dose not mather what cpu if if its Intell or AMD. Now days your live psan is limited of 5000 hours or less. heck of a lot less. then all the parts will die. Do you want to take the chance? I do not. I may upset some ASUS fans however its for any ones own good to know real deta as I haved wasted my time and money on. its not some cheap thing. 300.00 what about he CPU that died on me? and the other parts. Power supply ,everyhing had to be replaced again after I paid for it. Come on ASUS wake up!

 "Awesome Board!" 2009-04-27

The Asus M3A79-T Deluxe motherboard is a great board with many features and extras. I've had it for a couple of months and haven't had any problems with the actual board itself. Sadly, I fried it by trying to stick a light switch panel above my graphics card (while my pc was on) and it touched two transistors metal on metal and the next thing you know zap! Now its gone, it was a great board and overclocked well with a Phenom II 920 processor. Because ddr3 is still pretty pricey and the performance gains aren't super drastic compared to ddr2 this board is still a good choice until ddr3 completely blows ddr2 out of the water.

Purchased with AMD 9950 Quad Core Black Edition CPU. I've got two ATI 4850's right now but the box says you can do 4 way crossfire on the board. Running 8GB of RAM in a Cosmos S case. In short, it works great!

Be aware that not all of the larger CPU coolers will work if you fill all four RAM slots. I put 8GB of Corsair RAM and when I initially tried a Vendetta 2 cooler which blocked the left RAM slot. I switched to a Zalman 9700 and it fit just fine.

Replaced a 2 year old motherboard with this one and is has so far solved my issues very well. Setup was simple and stability has been top notch so far. Will update if anything changes.

 "Poor driver support" 2010-02-18
By UrQuan3
An excellent premium board. All the features you could want, except no updates.

ASUS has not released updated drivers for this board since its release. Both the audio and network have issues, yet there is no updated drivers for either. On the i7 side, ASUS replaced both of these components within a few months with a design update. Not here.

If your audio has weird noises, you can hear drives spinning up and mouse movements through your speakers, Here's how to fix it. Open the master volume. Normally you double-click the speaker icon on the bottom right of the screen. Options->Properties, check 'PC Beep'. Hit ok. Now, mute PC Beep.

I haven't had a problem like this out of a PC since Pentium Pro days.

 "great board" 2009-09-20
By Godfrey Allen (Miami, Florida United States)
Great motherboard , got it running ten minutes out of the box

I bought it to replace a asus M2N32 SLI wireless edition which never lasted more than a year

hope this one last longer.

I used back all my old parts from the other dead motherboard and it worked in this new board

havent tried over clockin it yet but the reviews say its a overclockers dream

Strong robust board I would recommend it to any one not a a waste of money.

 "This MOBO ROCKS!!!!!!!!!" 2009-06-11
By T. Murray (Bridgetown, Barbados)
Lord I can die a happy man now... My mission critical system died on me the last week in may, a Abit AN52 with a AMD 4500 + 2.4 Ghz processor...I was sad when my machine went down but now I forgive it as this MOBO with the new phenom II X4 I bought to replace it makes the old system look like it was molasses.

First off ASUS keeps up its reputation by adding a number of items to make installation easier, the pin configurations manager etc make it easy for those of us that aren't blessed with 20/20 eye sight, it also ships with an sli bridge cable for the video card in the box (a nice touch). Though this mobo was designed for the gaming industry it does fantastic double duty for the graphic and video industry as well, my video production software has never operated as seamlessly and for the rendering on programs like XARA and Adobe photoshop has dropped to more than half of what it used to be. I've rebuilt my old system with new graphics card and the old memory I was using from before, I've bench mard this system with amazing results, and a user experiance index of 4.8. I'm EXTREMLY happy with this purchase.

 "Excellent board!" 2009-03-24
By M. Fierro
Got this board over a month ago and have been running 8 GB of DDR2-1066 at 1066. States that due to AMD limitations only two DDR2-1066 chips are supported otherwise they will run at 800 speeds. This is easily overrided with memory speed change.

Through all my new components in and posted correctly the first time! This board is rock solid and one of the best boards out there, cannot beat an ASUS board.

Don't listen to the last guy. The new AMD AM3 socket CPU will incorporate DDR2 AND DDR3 memory controller. Thus the board suppports AM2+ and AM3 socket CPUs.

 "Great Motherboard" 2010-05-19

This is a great MOBO for LGA 775. It has DDR2, not DDR3. My Corsair DDR2 PC8500 runs good (and hot) at 1066MHz, no problems. Have any you want, SLI.
