when I purchased this item I was buying something that would be an added protection for husbands laptop, but this really is nothing more than decoration. I suppose it probably would prevent scratches from marring the finish on the back (outside) of the screen part of the laptop, but that's about it. I ended up keeping it because my husband really liked how it looked but I do resent that it's marked as a protective item and really it isn't.
