Hauppauge's MediaMVP is a low cost thin-client device which bridges the home PC with home TV and A/V equipment, via Ethernet networks. It takes high quality digital audio (MP3 music), digital video (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 videos), digital pictures (JPEG and GIF digital pictures) and other multimedia content in the form of IP packet streams and renders the content onto video and audio equipment such as TV sets, TV monitors or plasma monitors, and home theater A/V systems. The MediaMVP connects to the home LAN via its built-in RJ-45 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network interface. When used in conjunction with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR installed in a PC, a complete home TV and digital media distribution system can be made. Television is recorded on the home PC with the WinTV-PVR, and then watched on a TV set through the MediaMVP via the home LAN. The MediaMVP is located at the TV set, and decodes videos sent to the MediaMVP over the home LAN for viewing on the TV set. It also provides media decoding for MP3 music and JPEG/GIF digital pictures. The MediaMVP displays on the TV screen lists of media which can be played through the MediaMVP, plus menus for organizing the lists and for playing play lists. While playing music, the MediaMVP can also play a digital picture slide show.Driven by a powerful RISC CPU engine (>350 DMIPS) running the Linux operating system, and with dedicated special purpose multimedia hardware components, the MediaMVP is a full-blown network multi-media decoder device with superior computing and digital audio and video processing capacities.

"MediaMVP for Vista 64 Review" 2009-09-14
By G. Andis
Purchased hoping it would work with Vista 64 bit system. It does quite well. You can use the Hauppauge beta drivers that state are only for 32 bit vista but they work anyway. Not overly stable though. A better working option is to set it up using the GBPVR program free for download. Confusing to set up but once it is, it works very well and is very stable. We use it all the time to record and watch like a Tivo system. Even commercial skip works.

"caution for Vista 64 bit" 2009-01-12

Does not work with Vista 64 bit - no drivers, at least from the OEM. You'd better have a 32 bit Vista or XP around.

"Ditch the VCR and DVD Player" 2008-10-13

I own about 7x of them devices since 2004 no problems so far. But they'll keep you entertain for hours. Just need to turn one PC into a DVR using Hauppauge PVR-150 or PVR-150MCE which I had purchased here on Amazon. Once that's done just use one of the freeware or commercial DVR/PVR software and you got your own DVR and then the MVP can allow you to stream that recorded media back to any 12 MVP connected to 12 TVs. Remember more than 7x you'll need more RAM in that PC. Otherwise enjoy watching Videos, Pictures, Listening to Internet Radio and Music. I now offer you Internet Web Browsing, Internet Weather Animated Radar Maps, Traffic Highway Web Cam Viewing and more.

"Great Hardware, best Used with 3rd Party Software" 2007-12-06
By Shawn Kilgore (Raleigh, NC)
Hauppauge has long been known for putting out very good hardware and bundling it with awful software. The MVP is no exception.

If you already have a Hauppauge PVR in your computer and simply wish to play the MPG files it produces on your TV, then this will do the job out of the box. (With a network connection between your PC and the MVP and loading provided server on PC)

I personally use it with a SageTV server and the thing is brilliant in this configuration. Basically it's like having your own cable company digital cable with OnDemand video right in your own house. The MVP handles very smoothly as a client and hasn't given me a single problem.

If you are a complete novice, be sure to do your homework to ensure it will fit your needs. Otherwise, it's a great little unit and does things that $250 devices can't for under $100.
