 "Good Motherboard...but" 2010-02-25
By Charles R. Newman (Casa Grande, AZ)
After careful reviews of most of motherboard manufacturers I decided on the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5. The installation went well with no hickups, and the Operating system (Windows 7) installed without any problems. The motherboard driver installation was flawless and all the drivers worked without any conflicts in the device manager. The only thing negative is I could not find or install the home theater software to enable surround sound. I am still working with Gigabyte to find a solution to this. In the meantime, I managed to get surround sound by manipulating the sound control software using 7.1 instead of 5.1. I have a 5.1 system, but it would not work when set to 5.1, thus the 7.1 setting. The manual is well written and easy to understand, even for a novice with basic understandings of computers. I used Corsair memory (CM3X1333C9). Order the matched pair p/n TW3X4G1333C9 from corsair. This is DDR3 memory and is fairly inexpensive from Newegg. I have used other brands of motherboards before Gigabyte and none have been as easy to install and work right without troubleshooting for problems that usually arise when building a new system. I would recommend Gigabyte as a first choice in motherboards.

 "NEVER Buy from Gigabyte" 2010-02-21
By Richard L. Ross (ny, ny)
Pros: Swell mobo if it works as promised (mine didn't).

Cons: NO coherent "support" or even any ATTEMPT to provide support. Defective from day one with massive Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit corruption.

Comments: Sure, you may get lucky & not have any issues. Most conservative OC from day one produced systemic corruption of OS (Win 7 Ult, 64-bit)--& after 3 "clean" installs & 3 "upgrade" installs, it's still a nightmare (no OC). "Support" doesn't even pretend to read the posts (also "lucky" no. 3), or address the explicitly stated issues & request for help.

In my case, garbage product with only the suggestion to try a RMA--but actually look for a solution? Barking up the wrong tree if you buy a Gigabyte product.
