Asus motherboards are a good product, but for some unknown reason Asus decided to use a short-lived, poor quality Northbridge chipset fan motor on their A8N5X MOBO. I've learned this fan fails consistently, and it ruined my own system without warning.
It's almost impossible to replace the dead fan without removing the MOBO from the case...I'm not happy with Asus. The only good news is that I found a replacement fan still available at Amazon....must be due to the high demand for new ones.

After having my fan die several weeks ago, and having to disable the alarm and live dangerously every time I booted my machine, I on a whim did a search on Amazon to see how much replacing my motherboard would cost. I haven't had any issues with it other then the NB fan croaking, but I wanted to do a reality check and see what the board, despite being several years old, was valued at these days. After scrolling through a couple of them being sold for insanely high prices, I stumbled upon this item. Having measured my fan previously and looked for a generic fan to replace it but not having found one that I was confident would fit and be effective, I was thrilled to see that for a very small price (compared to the cost of replacement) I could have a brand new fan that would surely prolong the life of a motherboard I have fallen in love with. While many out there may likely say I should upgrade my mobo anyway, I honestly have no desire. Sure it's running DDR400 and a socket 939 processor, but with the investments I've already made in top end components for this board, I'll happily take the cost of a fan over the cost of replacing mobo/cpu/ram for a small incremental performance upgrade. This little fan, for all intents and purposes, just saved me hundreds of dollars!
